The Winchester Model 94 in the serial number range provided is Winchester’s Model 1894 lever-action carbine made between 19401964 and chambered for.3030.3240.3855.2535. This list is shown below, listing whether or not various serial numbered guns had the error or not. To help determine this I have recently searched my records and made a list of the information I had recorded. It has again come to the question of what really happened here and when the break in the die occurred. I fear this means they did not keep records for this model I know it was made from 1967 - 1980 but was hoping to nail down a specific date. For many years after that I kept records of all the first model guns that I saw and whether they had a broken D or not. Im trying to date my Winchester Model 190 but I cant even find this model listed on the charts. The Model 1906 production ended in 1926, 1906 serial numbered anyway. They come up fairly regularly on Fleabay. ![]() The one you need will have the letters 'WS' on the underside of the sight. The best of the original tang sites was the Lyman. Winchester probably thought '90' sounded more modern than '1890' as the 20th Century wore on. Production of the Model 1890 ceased at the end of 1942, but the last two were made in 1949, serial numbers 854746, and 854747. As stated above, the Model 90 is the same as the Model 1890. I noticed this error on several of the guns and not on the others. 22 wrf, serial 257261 has a 4 digit number stamped on the inside of the crescent butt plate. 1927 to 1942 Model 1906 parts were used in 'parts cleanup' with Model 1890 receivers that were in the 1890 serial number range. ![]() This broken die was discovered by me some years ago when I was inspecting a row of eleven first model guns all lined up close together. ![]() On page 101 of the Volume l, WINCHESTER SLIDE-ACTION RIFLES book by Ned Schwing is a picture of a First Model with a die break in the letter "D" of the word Manufactured. ![]()
